Prime Lenses: How to Shoot with Prime Lenses

Prime Lenses: How to Shoot with Prime Lenses

Saturday 01 June
Digbeth - 10:30am - 2 Hours
Birmingham Photography Group
Martin Tierney
In this session, we will be learning How to shoot with Prime Lenses while exploring the subjects: people and city landscapes.

Prime lenses are for example 24mm / 35mm/ 50mm / 85mm.

In film and photography, a prime lens is a fixed focal length photographic lens, typically with a maximum aperture of / f1.2. to f2.8. Because of the way they are designed, prime lenses often have a higher quality look than a zoom lens. This is because the build of a prime lens is much simpler than that of a zoom lens. They use less glass, which means that less light is diffracted, which will make for sharper images overall.

Editing in Adobe

Saturday 15 June
Google Meet - 10am - 2 Hours

Some might say that capturing the image is the most fun part of photography, others absolutely love post processing and enjoy that more, but whether you love it or hate it, editing is 50% of photography.

This class is for anyone editing in adobe suite or similar programs, the examples will all be in Lightroom and Photoshop. We’ll brush over the basic adjustments, and spend most of our time looking at how to edit and correct the light in separate parts of the image, how to edit and correct colour for complex lighting scenarios, how to remove objects, and we’ll leave space to discuss other issues you might be facing in post production work.

By the end of this class you should be feeling more confident in the adobe suite, have a few new tricks to play around with, and feel confident to produce artistic work that’s ready to print and hang, post to your website, social media, or set as your new computer background.

For this class you will be given access to a folder of images to edit along with the class, there will be time to look at your own images too.

These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. I decided to take the course to get some more understanding of how better to improve my photography. My last camera was a Practica SLR ( 35mm ) and I decided to get back into photography just over a year ago by buying a DSLR camera. After a short conversation with the instructor ( Jerry ) knew what my needs were and took me from taking my photographs from using Auto to using Manual settings. He was very understanding and informative on how to use the settings on my Canon 250D camera. I feel the course gave me a better understanding on how I could improve my photography skills further using better composition techniques and further understanding of Manual setting on my camera . I would definitely recommend this course for anyone wishing to understand and improve their photography further.
