Introduction to Black and White Photography. What makes a good Black and White shot?

We will look at the contrast and using textures. How does the camera see the image and how do we create Black and White images in a camera or in post-production. We will look for some good examples and set some exercises.

This is a more advanced course and assumes you understand the basics of photography and controlling your camera.

Getting out of Auto, Guide to Priority Modes, The Exposure Triangle, & Shooting in full Manual

Saturday 15 February
Newtown Linford - 10am - 3 Hours
Leicester Photography Group
Anthony Tanton
Teaching you how to fully control your images for correct exposure and some artistic expression and flare! We'll be starting out by looking at what your camera can do, and how you can make the camera do some of the work for you, while you still get to create the look you want.
Once we understand the two main settings for artistic expression, we'll talk about the exposure triangle - Aperture, Shutter Speed, and the third item we have been ignoring, ISO.
Once we understand the effect that Aperture and Shutter Speed can have on an image, and how we can use that to create a specific look, we'll add in ISO, and switch out to full manual.

The goal of this class is to teach you how to create the image you're looking for, getting proper exposure, what the main settings on your camera do, how to use those settings to control the image, and hopefully give you the ability and confidence to start shooting in manual mode more often.

Macro Photography is about the little details, from the texture of a single blade of grass, to the layers in a dandelion.

To capture the details we typically get very close, and make small things big, we might use very specialised equipment.

We'll be focusing on the principles of macro photography, techniques we can use, and how to best use equipment you have available, so that when you have a subject like insets and small flying creatureas, you're ready to go!

We will briefly discuss the use of lighting equipment to emphasise and assist macro photography.

I decided to take the course to get some more understanding of how better to improve my photography. My last camera was a Practica SLR ( 35mm ) and I decided to get back into photography just over a year ago by buying a DSLR camera. After a short conversation with the instructor ( Jerry ) knew what my needs were and took me from taking my photographs from using Auto to using Manual settings. He was very understanding and informative on how to use the settings on my Canon 250D camera. I feel the course gave me a better understanding on how I could improve my photography skills further using better composition techniques and further understanding of Manual setting on my camera . I would definitely recommend this course for anyone wishing to understand and improve their photography further.

I think sometimes you can?t beat a reflection based photograph. When I saw this building reflected on another building on a warm sunny day (which was almost exclusively glass), it made me think of psychedelia and psychedelic art. The reflection was calling me to take a photograph of it.

Taken at around 1am, the aurora had started to fade so I went for a longer exposure leaving the sky with smoothed out colours.I went for a gentle edit, ensuring my foreground stayed true to life and just visible, adding some clarity and texture in the sky to bring out the aurora and stars.Fujifilm X-T3018mmF2.830sec Exposure

Burton Dasset is a great location for sunrises and sunsets with its hills sitting above all of the local landscape, so a favourite place for early morning and evening walks with my dog and camera. It was actually due to rain on the day I took the image, but it didn't come so we hopped into the car and took a chance. The sky was total cloud when I arrived but as soon as the sun broke beneath them they all just lit up, along with light hitting across the various hills and bumps in the foreground.
